Vijayawada: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which stepped up its investigation into the custodial torture and death of Gade Sai Krishna, conducted a full day of inquiry at the Krishnalanka police station here on Saturday. Officials questioned the staff until late at night, collected forensic samples and went through the files handed over by the SIT.

As part of the enquiry, the CBI officials asked why an RMP was called, on whose orders he was called to treat Sai Krishna, and why he was not taken to a hospital. A Blue Colts constable allegedly brought local RMP Shivakumar to the station to give first aid, and the constable stated that he acted on the orders of then CI Nagaraju. There are also reports that the lockup was repainted to hide bloodstains.
The CBI team videographed the station premises, the lockups, the chambers of the inspector and sub-inspectors, the staff hall and the writer’s cabin. Forensic experts, including a CFSL team brought by the agency, examined the site and searched the station and the old building where the SIT concluded that Saikrishna subsequently died. Samples were collected and will be sent to Hyderabad. Officials supervising the case, including the investigating officer and Additional SP C.H.V. Narendra Dev of the CBI Hyderabad unit, inspected both buildings. More than ten CBI personnel, including a DSP, inspectors and sub-inspectors, are on the case. Another CBI team met the Police Commissioner on Saturday afternoon to seek details of the case. The CBI has registered the case under 11 sections in total.
CBI officials are reportedly preparing to search the homes of Gulivindala Suresh Kumar (A4) and Venkataraju (A7) on Sunday. The court has already granted permission. Suresh Kumar is said to be a close associate of the suspended CI Nagaraju.
