Hyderabad: As one walks into the premises of Gandhi Hospital’s main building at around 12 in the afternoon on Wednesday, amidst the silent corridors, patient attendants, facing power cuts, were seen selecting corners of departments to rest and sleep.

The hospital RMO, who was on duty, explained that no doctor had proper sleep as they faced power cuts and generator overload problems on Tuesday night.

Patient attendants in the orthopaedic and geriatric centre, and the radiology department, told Deccan Chronicle, “There was a power cut for some time, and later it kept going off and on. Some of us managed to sleep, while others could not.”

Hospital superintendent Dr N. Vani, said, “We did face the issue, but we restored it immediately after coordinating with TSSPDCL, whose officials also visited the hospital. Due to air conditioners, there is more load on one of the transformers. The electrician had to switch the generator to auto mode, but the one for the main building had an issue. So, we have also written to the Director of Medical Education to shift a transformer from the closed Gachibowli TIMS for assistance, and that process is underway.”

BRS member Krishank wrote on X that there was no power for two hours on Tuesday night and urged the government to restore it.
