Gardner Minshew went from QB2 to comeback catalyst Sunday.
The Cardinals backup led the team on a game-tying touchdown drive against the Cowboys after replacing a struggling Jacoby Brissett in an eventual 33-30 overtime win at AT&T Stadium.
Minshew helped Arizona erase a second-half deficit and tie the game at 30, although a missed extra point by Chad Ryland prevented the Cardinals from taking the lead.
Minshew then gave Ryland a chance at redemption after the Cardinals stopped Dallas to start OT. He led an eight-play, 44-yard drive that ended with a game-winning 42-yard field goal from the kicker to send Arizona to 3-5.
The dramatic turnaround came after Arizona benched Brissett late in the third quarter, with the Cardinals trailing 17-3.
Brissett completed just 10 of 23 passes for 119 yards and an interception before being replaced. He was also sacked four times, including two on consecutive plays during his final possession.
Minshew immediately gave a spark to the muddling Cardinals offense.
On his first snap, he completed a seven-yard pass to Devin Duvernay.
Running back Tyler Allgeier then broke free for a 63-yard touchdown, cutting Dallas’ lead to 17-10.
The Cardinals continued battling back before Minshew directed the late touchdown drive, finding Michael Wilson in the endzone, forcing a 30-30 deadlock in the waning seconds during regulation.
The quarterback change followed a difficult afternoon for Brissett and a disappointing start to Arizona’s season.
Entering Sunday, Brissett had completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 1,600 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions, with an 82.8 passer rating.
Arizona also entered the matchup with a 2-5 record, having lost five of their previous six games.
Minshew, meanwhile, is making his first regular season appearance with the Cards.
Originally selected by Jacksonville in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Minshew became an unexpected starter as a rookie, throwing for 3,271 yards and 21 touchdowns to just six picks.

He spent two seasons with the Jaguars before joining Philadelphia in 2021, where he served as Jalen Hurts’ backup.
Minshew subsequently signed with Indianapolis in 2023 and took over after rookie Anthony Richardson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.
He threw for 3,305 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions that season, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.
Minshew joined the Raiders in 2024, but his stint with the Raiders was cut short by a broken collarbone.
And last season, he backed up Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
