Gareth Malone is a staple on TV screens – but who is his rarely-seen wife?
The choirmaster and telly star has fast become a recognisable face on our screens. He is best known for his work on the BAFTA award-winning series The Choir, as well as his work with the Military Wives Choir.
Gareth’s other TV credits include Celebrity Escape to the Country, Pitch Battle, and The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C. In 2022, he also appeared on The Masked Dancer as Cactus and was eliminated in week 4. That same year, Gareth took part in Celebrity MasterChef and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the competition.
But away from the TV shows, Gareth is loved-up with his long-term partner. So what do we know about their romance?
Gareth and his rarely-seen wife Becky
Gareth has been married to his wife Becky, an English teacher, for over a decade. Although the couple has kept details of their marriage private, it appears they got married shortly after he fronted The Choir: Military Wives in 2011.
And in 2012, Gareth revealed Becky’s rather brutal response to his newfound fame and the attention he got. “She thinks all the attention I’m getting is a bit silly. She believes her job is to take me down a peg or two, and no one can bring me down to earth as she can,” he told MailOnline.
Gareth added: “When someone gives me a compliment, she’ll say: ‘Please stop! He doesn’t need it. He’s plenty confident enough.’”
Gareth reveals Becky ‘has a very nice voice’
Gareth also previously spoke about his romance with Becky and gushed about his supportive wife. He told MailOnline: “I talk through every decision I make with my wife. It’s great to have a sounding board, a best friend to tell me, ‘No, you’re being an absolute [expletive]!’ when it’s necessary.”
He continued: “She approves every song choice, every idea, every outfit, every haircut. Everything.”
Meanwhile, talking to the Mirror in 2017, Gareth revealed Becky “is used to” him singing all the time at home, adding: “She wouldn’t have married me if she hadn’t liked it, I guess. She has a very nice voice, and we harmonise and duet.”
Gareth on ‘nightmare’ ordeal
Gareth and Becky have gone on to have three children: Esther, Gilbert, and Dvora. In the past, Gareth has candidly opened up about juggling his busy work schedule and family life.
He told Radio Times that he went through a “complete nightmare” when he shared a room with his then-18-month-old while working on musical projects.
He said: “I’d been planning to have a studio built in the garden for three years. I wanted a soundproof music room so that not only would I not disturb the neighbours, but they wouldn’t disturb me – kids screaming, people mowing their lawns.”
