General Mills is recalling nearly 736,000 Pillsbury bread rolls over concerns they could contain glass, according to a notice issued by the US Food and Drug Administration earlier this week.
The recall covers two frozen bread roll products: 3,080 cases of Hard Roll Dough, with 180 rolls in each case, totaling 554,400 rolls, and 1,260 cases of Kaiser Roll Dough, with 144 rolls per case, totaling 181,440 rolls. The FDA notice states the products may contain “potential foreign material (glass)”.
The recalled rolls were distributed to Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
The recall was initiated by General Mills on 19 June. According to information on the company’s website, the frozen dough products are intended primarily for commercial food service customers rather than individual consumers.
“Freshly baked, scratch-like bread is possible without increasing labor costs. Simply thaw, proof, and bake pre-portioned dough to make your desired quantity of rolls,” the description for the Pillsbury Kaiser roll product reads.
General Mills is also the parent company of several well-known brands, including Betty Crocker, Cheerios, Lucky Charms and Nature Valley.
Hard Roll Dough is being recalled under recall number H-1154-2026. These frozen products are packaged in bulk cases containing 180 units, with each individual roll weighing 2.25oz. Food service operators should check their inventory for cases marked with a “better if used by” date of 12 October 2026.
Kaiser Roll Dough is identified by recall number H-1155-2026. These rolls are distributed in cases containing 144 units, with each roll weighing 2.5oz. This specific product carries a use-by date of 13 October 2026.
Millions of pounds of frozen chicken and pork fried rice, ramen and shu mai products made by Ajinomoto Frozen Foods were recalled in March after potential glass contamination. Affected brands included Trader Joe’s, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, Kroger and Ajinomoto.
Two month later, in May, the supermarket chain Aldi recalled its vanilla crème brûlée dessert sold in glass jars due to possible glass contamination in seven states, including New York and Florida.
