George Kittle kept things brief when discussing estranged 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

When the tight end was asked whether he was looking forward to seeing Aiyuk in the 49ers’ facility Friday, Kittle gave a blunt response.

“Do you think he gets into the facility?” he said.

“I plead the fifth. You can ask John [Lynch] or Kyle [Shanahan]. Don’t ask me. I’m a conspiracy guy.”

Aiyuk is pushing to play in the NFL again after spending just over two years away from his team. The Arizona State product suffered a season-ending injury against the Chiefs in Week 7 of the 2024 season.

Since then, Aiyuk hasn’t suited up for the 49ers in what has turned out to be one of the most dramatic player-team standoffs in NFL history. This week, the 28-year-old has made efforts to return after hiring agent Drew Rosenhaus and filing the paperwork to be reinstated by the NFL.

Aiyuk is set to report to the 49ers’ facility Friday after spending an inordinate amount of time on San Francisco’s Reserve/Left Squad list. In Kittle’s opinion, the awkward reunion doesn’t seem likely.

Aiyuk has an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Santa Clara as he is wanted on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speed. That could possibly put his looming arrival to the team facility in jeopardy.

Based on Shanahan’s comments regarding the situation, the 49ers don’t appear to be interested in welcoming Aiyuk back to the offense. Thus, San Francisco’s remaining options include releasing the wideout or finding a trade partner for him.

Regardless, Friday should prove to be an interesting chapter in the Aiyuk-49ers saga.
