BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones opened up about his love life before later shutting down romance rumours involving co-star Helen Skelton

Gethin Jones has previously called his love life “complex” as he spoke candidly about being single. The 48-year-old’s highest-profile relationship was with opera star Katherine Jenkins, who he proposed to during their four years together.
After that split, he was briefly linked to former TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh, though busy schedules meant things never really developed. More recently, he has been the subject of dating rumours involving his Morning Live co-host Helen Skelton – speculation they have repeatedly denied.
Their on-screen partnership became official in January 2024, when the BBC confirmed a refreshed presenting line-up for the daytime show.
Later that year when speaking on the Anything Is Possible podcast, Gethin said he was still single but hadn’t closed the door on meeting someone. “I think it’s a bigger, more complex conversation for another podcast maybe,” he said, before admitting he couldn’t quite put his finger on why he wasn’t in a relationship.
“I’m a pretty simple guy — but probably quite complex,” he added.
He went on to say that as “cliche” as it sounded, he felt happy in himself, adding he was “really content” and grateful for what he had.
Gethin also joked that, with friends now coupled up, he’s started calling them out for not returning the favour after years of him playing wingman. “I’m single, I’ve got a lot of time on my hands,” he added.
It’s understood that the host has remained single since that podcast appearance, despite ongoing talk about a possible romance with Helen, who separated from rugby league star Richie Myler in 2022.
Asked directly about the rumours in an interview with The Times, she said that they are simply just friends.
“It’s wild. I’ve had my best friend congratulate me on our engagement,” she told the publication. “We’re not [together]. We work together; he’s one of my best friends.”
After the pair completed a roller disco endurance challenge for Comic Relief last year, she posted a warm tribute to Gethin on social media, praising his support and describing him as a “legend”.
She went on to say she was grateful to have him beside her “on the rink, the sofa and beyond”.
In return, he wrote on his page: “A little appreciation post for this super woman @helenskelton. Unbelievable physical and mental resilience… Loves a laugh but a deep thinker (I had to remind her a few times we were live on tv). It says a lot that you can spend 24hrs non stop with someone and still call them an hour later for a debrief.
“Respect means we can be honest with each other always. There was NO time at all, at any time during this challenge, not one, where I wanted to throw her off the rink. Never once. Didn’t even come into mind.”
