Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani found himself in an unexpected sideshow during the opening game of a three-game series in San Francisco with the rival Giants on Tuesday.
Ohtani was warming up in the on-deck circle when Giants mascot Lou Seal crept into his space to needle him.
Ohtani played it cool at first, but after a few seconds he’d had enough, so he turned back toward Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to tattle on the giant seal.
Roberts could be seen barking at Lou Seal from the dugout, and the mascot eventually backed off. The hilarious encounter was all caught on video from fans in attendance from various angles.
Lost in the antics, however, was Ohtani extending his MLB-leading on-base streak to 53 games, tying Shawn Green for the LA Dodgers’ record, while still chasing Duke Snider’s franchise record (58) set in 1954 with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The Giants won 3-1 on Tuesday night.
