A 16-year-old girl has been killed in a crash near Highgate School in north London.

The Met Police said officers were called to North Road, Highgate, at about 08:15 BST following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and car.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, near the private school’s main site. The driver of the car, a 68-year-old man, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The girl’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers, the Met said.

The London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London Air Ambulance also attended.

The Met said road closures were in place, and people are being asked to avoid the area.
