Could Glastonbury be about to become supersonic, with a performance from Oasis? Festival boss Emily Eavis has now responded to speculation that the mighty group could be set to deliver a performance on the Pyramid Stage next year.
Social media has been flooded with speculation over who might be performing at Worthy Farm next year, and it’s fair to say that bosses are remaining tight-lipped. Reports have suggested that Harry Styles, Sam Fender and Taylor Swift have been booked for the prestigious slots.
But many people believed that Oasis could be taking to the stage as part of their huge tour next year, due to a rather suspicious gap in between their schedule following their 11-night residency at their beloved Etihad Stadium in Manchester. The band are wrapping up their Manchester shows on June 26, just one day before Glastonbury’s closing day.
Now, boss Emily Eavis has finally addressed the speculation. “Please say you’ve got Oasis,” said one fan on social media as Emily shared an update on tickets.
Responding, she said: “Sorry Jimmy, not this time!” Liam Gallagher himself has in the past suggested that he and his bandmates would never perform at Glastonbury again. “I like the other stages and the tents, but the main stage is like playing to a load of jamboree teachers,” he said.
And last month, he once again shot down any speculation. Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, he said: “It’s not HAPPENING. So all you Croc wearing flag waving s**t c***** can calm the f*** down.”
Noel, meanwhile, has slammed Glastonbury, claiming the festival has gone “a bit woke”, and “a bit kind of preachy and a bit virtue-signalling.”
The outspoken Mancunian continued: “I don’t like it in music, little f*****g idiots waving flags around and making political statements and bands taking the stage and saying, ‘Hey guys, isn’t war terrible, yeah? Let’s all boo war. F**k the Tories man,’ and all that.” Despite this, he is a fan of attending the festival.
He last performed on the Pyramid Stage in 2022 as a solo act, while Liam performed in 2017 and 2019. Addressing their 2004 performance, Liam said: “I didn’t enjoy that because that was when I’d first started using in-ears [monitors to hear the music], and it’s spun me out for 15 years.” But he added that he had “always enjoyed Glastonbury”.
So far, no acts have been confirmed for the festival, but last month Emily revealed that all three headline acts had been booked. She also shot down reports that Madonna was jetting in for a performance. Speaking on Radio 4’s PM programme last month, she said of the headliners: “No, it’s definitely not Madonna, I’ll tell you that.”
Emily said: “Pretty much 95 per cent of the stories [about Glastonbury] you read are not true, and rumours are pretty much always wrong. But the good news is that we’ve got our headliners and we’re cracking on, and we just can’t wait to get back.”
Madonna was speculated to be performing after she appeared on The Graham Norton Show earlier this summer and hinted that she was planning “something bigger” for next year, following a string of promotional tours.
When Graham asked whether the large event could be in the UK, Madonna replied: “It could be. Why do I have to tell you everything?” Tickets for next year’s coach travel will go on sale at 6pm on Thursday, October 1. General sale will go live at 9am on Sunday, October 4.
Buying tickets for Glastonbury is different to buying tickets for any other festival. Forget Ticketmaster and Twickets, you need to be registered via the Glastonbury website. Registration closes at 5pm on Friday, September 25. After this, there won’t be an opportunity to amend or resubmit your application.
To register, you must be over the age of 13 on the day the festival starts, Wednesday, June 23, 2027. General admission tickets will cost a staggering £408 per ticket, including a £5 booking fee. Postage and packaging will make this more expensive.
