VIJAYAWADA: The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has intensified enforcement against illegal posters and banners, warning of fines and police cases against violators.

Municipal commissioner K. Mayur Ashok on Wednesday said indiscriminate poster pasting was affecting city beautification works, including wall paintings and public spaces.

He said 12 vigilance teams have been formed to identify offenders and monitor public places, including during night hours. Residents were asked to report violations to the GMC call centre.

The commissioner said awareness meetings had been held with printing press owners and representatives of organisations, but violations continued, prompting stricter action.

He directed officials to impose penalties and register cases against those defacing public property. Offenders would also be required to remove posters and restore damaged walls.

Officials were also asked to remove unauthorised advertising boards and signages on public infrastructure. The commissioner said flex banners must carry printer details, failing which action would be taken against organisers and printers.
