TOKYO –
GMO Internet Group President Masatoshi Kumagai revealed that attackers responsible for unauthorized access to servers used for foreign exchange trading and other services had demanded $50 million, equivalent to approximately 7.9 billion yen, with the company refusing to comply.

Kumagai disclosed the demand in an update to his personal blog, confirming that the attackers had sought the substantial payment following the security breach.

The unauthorized access targeted servers used for foreign exchange (FX) transactions and other financial services operated by the GMO group.

GMO has made clear that it will not comply with the attackers’ demands.
