Kakinada: The administrations of five Godavari districts — Kakinada, Konaseema, Eluru, East Godavari and West Godavari — have completed arrangements for counting votes in the municipal elections on Tuesday. Police have stepped up security around counting centres.

Kakinada superintendent of police G. Bindu Madhav said winning candidates would not be allowed to take out victory rallies, burst firecrackers or gather in groups to celebrate after the results are declared. He urged candidates and political leaders to cooperate with the police.

He instructed police officials to implement a multi-level inspection system and allow entry only to those who have obtained permission from the concerned government officials.

Konaseema superintendent of police Rahul Meena also said victory rallies would not be permitted in the district. He said tight security, traffic restrictions and special surveillance would be in place at counting centres in Amalapuram, Ramachandrapuram and Mummidivaram. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS would also be in force.

He said 480 police personnel had been deployed for the counting process scheduled for November 3.

Traffic diversions would be enforced in Amalapuram from 5 am to 7 pm to avoid inconvenience to commuters. Two-wheelers from surrounding areas have been advised to follow the diversions.

Vehicles travelling from Edarapalli Bridge towards Razole should take the route via Black Bridge, Red Bridge, KIMS College and Bhatnavilli Y-junction. Vehicles travelling from Razole towards Ravulapalem and Ainavilli should proceed via Peruru Y-junction, Bhatnavilli Y-junction, KIMS College, Red Bridge and Black Bridge.

Representatives of political parties, election staff, counting agents and media personnel have been asked to park their vehicles only in areas designated by the police and ensure that they do not obstruct traffic.

East Godavari district collector Keerthi Chekuri said election material distribution centres had been shifted in Rangampeta and Mandapeta mandals due to heavy rain.
