Mo Gilligan was working in a clothes store when he started sharing comedy videos on his social media profile.
The 38-year-old, from Lambeth in London, has an incredible talent for observational comedy as he can perfectly mimic a group of girls on a night out, play an annoying little brother, and portray a weird uncle, to name a few.
Mo’s cheeky videos pack a one-minute Instagram clip with so much humour that his followers end up in tears of laughter.
At the start of his career, he worked as a retail assistant at Levi’s, and his comedy became so popular that customers started coming into the store to meet him.
In 2017, Mo’s life changed when a certain rapper spotted his gags online, catapulting him into the limelight.
Mo started out with his hilarious comedy videos, before catching Drake’s attention with a parody clip dubbed ‘Cockney guys when they see a bit of sun’.
Donning a cockney accent, he cried out: “F****** hell, it’s a bit hot. Jesus f****** Christ, it’s like Jamaica. Julie, get a coupla cans in! Get a coupla cans, love.”
Shortly after, Canadian rapper Drake shared a snap to his own Instagram, writing in the caption: “Enjoying this ‘Julie bring me a couple cans’ weather today.”
Mo has since achieved huge success with his stand-up, selling out his first UK tour in just two minutes.
From there, he was signed to the Channel 4‘s The Big Narstie Show, which he co-presented with the rapper Big Narstie, and later landed his own Channel 4 show, The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan.
Mo is also a panelist on ITV’s The Masked Singer, has presented the Brit Awards, and is a regular on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his friend Babatunde Aleshe, an actor and comedian.
Born in London, Mo has spoken publicly about his Welsh roots thanks to his Welsh mum, who was born in Barry, supporting the Welsh football team at the 2016 Euros.
Who is Mo Gilligan engaged to?
Mo was in a relationship with actress Sophie Wise from 2018 until they amicably separated in 2022. Wise is best known for playing Carly Bradley in Hollyoaks and for her roles in BBC dramas such as Holby City and Doctors.
The pair largely kept their romance out of the public eye, and after four years together, their relationship ended in late 2022.
It was claimed that the break-up was largely down to Mo’s work commitments, and the former couple was reported to be “still friends” despite the difficult split.
In 2024, Mo became a father for the first time when his ex, Selina Christoforou, gave birth to their son, Rudi.
Mo is now engaged to his model fiancée, Taia Tulher, 28, with the pair welcoming a newborn in the summer of 2025.
Taia is a London-based model who has reportedly worked with many notable brands, including Chanel, for which projects included Chanel Noir et blanc and the Chanel Haute Couture campaigns in 2025.
