The VRL league has selected the best team of the 2026 Premier League season.
The players have been chosen based on statistics from the Total Waterpolo Arena scoring application, which uses a formula to evaluate player performance. It accounts for both positive contributions and negative factors throughout the season
Strahinja Gojkovic, the League MVP who scored 43 goals, had 17 assists, 10 blocks, etc, is the only player of third-placed Jadran m:tel in the Top 7.
Radnicki, the VRL champion, has two players in the best team, one fewer than 2nd-placed Primorac. It’s not surprising, considering that Radnicki had many aces, who all contributed similarly to the team’s success.
The Kragujevac-based team is represented by two experienced players who pose a significant threat to opponents on the right side of the attack. They are left-handed Boris Vapenski, and Angelos Vlachopoulos. Vapenski had an excellent shot percentage this season – 59%; he scored 27 goals and delivered 29 assists. Vlachopoulos finished the season with 26 assists, 28 goals, and had an important role in defense with 12 steals and 14 blocks.
Besides Gojkovic, the League’s best scorer, Marko Mrsic (Primorac) is on the left flank of the “golden team” attack. He scored 44 goals.
Mrsic’s teammate, Savo Cetkovic, is the best center-forward. He forced 63 personal fouls throughout the season and scored 29 goals.
Primorac’s third player in the best team is young Balsa Vuckovic, who helped his team reach 2nd place with good attacking and defensive performances. Vuckovic scored 31 goals, had 29 assists, and stole the ball 22 times.
Of course, the red cap belongs to the best goalkeeper of the season, Darko Djurovic (Sabac), who posted 138 saves (46% of efficiency).
Silver team
Besides the Top 7, the “Silver team”, the second lineup, was selected.
Radnicki’s captain, Andrija Prlainovic, who won the 69th trophy of his career, is on the left side, as one of the best scorers and assists providers in the League (39 goals and 28 assists). Besides Prlainovic, Japanese Yusuke Inaba, one of Primorac’s key players, is on the same side of the attack.
Olympic and European champion Sava Randejelovic (Radnicki) is the defender of the silver team, while Nebojsa Toholj (Sabac), who heads the list of the players with the most forced exclusions (76), is in the center-forward position.
Spanish ace Fran Valera (Jadran) and Sabac’s power engine Ognjen Stojanovic were selected for the right side of the attack.
The only player from the teams that didn’t qualify for the F4 who deserved a spot among the best 14 is goalkeeper Vladimir Misovic (Crvena Zvezda), who posted 37 saves, 17 steals.
