WARANGAL: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday urged the media to play a proactive role in transforming the fight against drug abuse into a people’s movement, stressing that sustained awareness is essential to achieve a drug-free society. Addressing a media interaction, he said the media has a responsibility to educate people, particularly youth, on the harmful effects of narcotic substances and to promote the message of making every home and village drug-free.
The Governor called on media organisations to support the Centre and the state government in ensuring welfare schemes reach the last beneficiary, while encouraging reporting on development, public welfare and social awareness.
He said the media serves as a platform for promoting responsible thinking, social consciousness and healthy lifestyles, and urged journalists to continue highlighting issues related to public well-being and support efforts to build a drug-free Telangana.
Expressing confidence in coordinated efforts, Shukla said the vision of a “Drug-Free India and Drug-Free Telangana” could be achieved through collective participation.
He also emphasised the need for regular monitoring of welfare schemes by officials, cautioning that inadequate supervision could affect implementation. Officials, he said, should engage with the public, identify challenges and resolve them to ensure schemes are accessible and effective.
