Hyderabad: Former minister and senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Tuesday demanded that the state government release all the pending Rythu Bharosa dues to farmers who are already facing multiple challenges because of government neglect. He alleged that the government skipped three instalments of the subsidy input totalling Rs 19,000 crore.
Addressing a meeting of his party leaders in Manakondur constituency, Harish Rao said the government owed farmers Rs 9,000 crore from one completely missed instalment, Rs 4,000 crore due to restricted payments in a subsequent season, and another Rs 6,000 crore because it limited the assistance to two acres in the latest phase. “The BRS demands the immediate release of these dues,” he said.
Harish Rao also reiterated his earlier charge that a Rs 2,000-crore scam had taken place in purchase of supplies for students of Gurukul schools. “Tenders worth nearly Rs 1,200 crore for uniforms and shoes, and another set of tenders worth Rs 800 crore for food supplies were awarded under questionable circumstances. Even the ministers concerned appear to be unaware of the details of tenders issued by their own departments,” he said.
The BRS leader also claimed the government was indulging in wasteful expenditure on new camp offices, and other high-cost initiatives even as its claims it does not have funds for welfare programmes. “Public resources were being diverted away from farmers, students and weaker sections,” Harish Rao said.
