Vijayawada:Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday directed officials to make capacity building and skill development a continuous process for government employees, including through training programmes in collaboration with institutions such as the IITs and IIMs.
During a review meeting on the services being delivered by various departments, the chief minister discussed capacity building for employees, Anna Canteens, drinking water supply in urban areas and facilities in welfare hostels.
Naidu said Andhra Pradesh was ahead of other southern states in capacity building and skill development of government employees. He said employees had been undergoing various courses through iGOT Karmayogi and were being trained to work in real-time situations. He advised them to make use of virtual courses to upgrade their skills.
Observing that IAS officers regularly underwent orientation and upgraded their skills, Naidu said government employees too should receive similar training. He directed officials to explore training programmes with IITs and IIMs based on the specific skill requirements of employees.
The CM cautioned officials against any complacency in ensuring drinking water supply. He reviewed the situation in urban areas and was informed that recent rains had eased the water shortage considerably.
Officials said two municipalities in Rayalaseema were facing minor drinking water issues and steps were being taken to resolve them. Groundwater levels in Visakhapatnam had also improved following the rains, they said.
The CM directed the officials to ensure that drinking water problems did not arise in both urban and rural areas and cautioned them against becoming complacent merely because of the recent rainfall. He also called for greater public participation in various government programmes.
Chief secretary Sai Prasad and senior officials attended the meeting.
