Gutha Dismisses Demand of BJP MP on Dindi LIS

Telangana State Legislative Council chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy on Sunday found fault in the demand of Mahabubnagar M.P. D.K. Aruna to cancel the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Speaking at a press conference held at his camp office in Nalgonda, he said being an MP and leader of the national party BJP, Aruna might not have made such comments, which would create rift between the people of the Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts. Instead of creating a hurdle for the Dindi LIS, the BJP MP should work to achieve national project status for the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. It would lead to early completion of the project by bringing required funds from the Centre, he added.

He felt that it was not proper to create a dispute by dividing water resources district-wise. If our neighboring states followed the same path, Telangana would not receive a single drop of Krishna River water from Karnataka. He reminded that 30 TMCs of water were being supplied to Hyderabad through the Atimineti Madhava Reddy Project (AMRP) from Nalgonda district for drinking water purposes. There should be no regional disputes on utilisation of water, and the interest of the state would be accorded priority.

He pointed out that the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme was taken up not only for irrigation purposes but also for a safe drinking water supply to the fluoride-affected areas in Nalgonda district.

He appreciated the decision of the Chief Minister, Anumula Revanth Reddy, to allocate 0.5 TMC of water for the Dindi Lift Irrigation Project.
