‘Hacks’ Finale Ending Explained, Is ‘Ava’ Able To Overturn ‘Deborah’s’ Call During Their Paris Trip?

Hacks has created a different fan base with its unique setting and characters over the last five years. The fifth and final season of the HBO series started streaming on April 9, 2026. This time, the focus is on ‘Deborah’ and ‘Ava’, with the former aiming to establish herself by performing the best stand-up comedy show in New York City.

The ending has marked a reunion of the characters, leaving the possibilities of the story being continued with another season. However, that is seemingly not expected to happen again. While all ten episodes of Season 5 are now available for streaming, keep reading to know what happens at the end of the show!

‘Deborah’ changes her decision after ‘Ava’ fails to help her

‘Deborah’ and ‘Ava’ leave for Paris, which brings back the most memorable moments from the entire show. ‘Ava’ was initially not ready to accept that ‘Deborah’ was ending her life. ‘Ava’ even rejected the trip to see if ‘Deborah’ would change her decision. While ‘Ava’ tries to find the best treatments for her best friend’s health issues, ‘Ava’ fails to discover a solution and eventually accepts the fate of ‘Deborah.’

‘Deborah’ can be spotted getting a croissant for herself, and this is followed by a face-off session with ‘Ava,’ where they attempt to make the best joke related to death and eating habits. This is also the point where ‘Deborah’ understands that she can do a lot of things. She eventually tells ‘Ava’ that she will not die and plans to do another special.

The moment when ‘Deborah’ changes her decision will also remind people of the show’s beginning. ‘Deborah’ had not hired ‘Ava’ in the beginning, and the latter then created a joke, which was an improvisation over the online post due to which ‘Ava’ was blacklisted. ‘Deborah’ then followed ‘Ava,’ telling her that it was the best decision.

‘Ava’s’ pilot for the reboot of a show is accepted

‘Ava’ is now in a position where she can do anything without ‘Deborah’. ‘Ava’ has become different by the time she starts filming the pilot for the reboot of a show, Who’s Making Dinner? ‘Ava’ can be spotted appreciating the good work, and she later reveals to ‘Deborah’ that her pilot has been accepted. Notably, ‘Deborah’ once mocked ‘Ava’ since the latter was able to blackmail her and get the job as a head writer.

‘Jimmy’ and ‘Kayla’ reject the concept of AI despite suffering a minor loss

‘Jimmy’ and ‘Kayla’ face an unexpected situation where they return to Latitude. The decision is a result of the end of Schaeffer & LuSaque. ‘Michael,’ the father of ‘Kayla,’ finally gets the opportunity to humiliate ‘Jimmy’. But it does not work as expected since ‘Jimmy’ considers it a triumph moment for himself. ‘Jimmy’ is in the mailroom, and he finds some documents of Latitude. He then discovers some secret agreements made by ‘Kayla’s’ father, including that the company head has been involved in a business where the voices and other details of the deceased clients are sold to AI companies without permission.

‘Jimmy’ gets the upper hand here as he blackmails ‘Kayla’s’ father. He tells ‘Michael’ to hand over the company to him and ‘Kayla.’ ‘Michael’ accepts his defeat. Although a few employees leave, this includes those people who are not willing to do some hard work with honesty. ‘Jimmy’ and ‘Kayla’s’ choice is expected to send a good message to all those who are employed somewhere. On the other hand, ‘Jimmy’ and ‘Kayla’ still have to face certain people they don’t want to, including ‘Lipka.’

What happens to ‘Marcus’ and ‘Randi’?

‘Marcus’ is joined by ‘Deborah’ in the end as he launches the Diva hotel. He even includes a comedy club, named after ‘Deborah.’ On the other hand, ‘Randi’ does not leave ‘Jimmy’ and ‘Kayla’s’ side. ‘Randi’ also gets to work at ‘Kayla’s’ office after the latter decides to use the assistant desk outside ‘Jimmy’s’ office. During the opening of the Diva hotel, ‘Deborah’ tells everyone in her speech that Las Vegas accepted the way she was. The show also ends with a view of Las Vegas while ‘Deborah’ and ‘Ava’ continue to have a conversation with each other.
