Hammond came into the NAC West boys soccer season believing that this could be their year to compete for a division title.
In their sixth game, the Red Devils secured a 2-1 win over Hermon-DeKalb Monday to stay undefeated at 4-0-2 and defend the lead over 3-0-1 Heuvelton which blanked Harrisville 4-0 and 3-1-1 Morristown who downed Norwood-Norfolk 3-0-0.

The other games of the day saw Lisbon secure its second win in a 1-0 decision over Edwards-Knox and Madrid-Waddington down St. Regis Falls 6-0.
Hammond 2 – H-D 1: The Red Devils (4-0-2) came from behind with two goals in the final 6:06. Ashtyn Smith scored in the first minute for H-D with Hammond’s Michael Ortiz tying the score from Oliver Pease with 6:06 to play. Landon Howie netted the winning goal unassisted with 2:43 to play.
Hudson Arquitt backstopped the win with 17 saves and Hunter Bouchey finishing with 15 stops for H-D.
“I want to to give the guys who came off the bench today. They played a huge part in the victory today,” said Hammond Coach Erik Whitcombe.

MCS 4 – N-N 0: The Rockets (3-1-1) gained a valuable two points to stay in the mix. Damian Young-Hollister scored from Jeffrey Simmons, Erik Bush scored off a penalty shot and the third goal came as an own goal off a defender. Grant Butler stopped five shots in the shutout.
Lisbon 1 – E-K 0: The Golden Knights and Cougars both came in hungry for a win and both showed it. With Anderson Sovie making 19 saves for Lisbon and Jeff Palma handling 14 chances for E-K, the two opposing defenses held firm until Lisbon defender Eddy Walker moved up to take a direct kick and scored with 4:27 remaining.
“Our young guys are really picking things up and getting better. Ashlaw and Zack had very strong games. Max Farrand did a lot of nice things on offense sending ball in from halfback position,” said Lisbon Coach Matt Gladle.
HCS 4 – Harrisville 0: The Bulldogs (3-0-1) handed the Pirates their second loss as Dylan Ashlaw scored two goals off assists from Jude Spooner and Cory Ethridge scored the eventual winning goal unassisted. Sweeper Lyshan Young moved forward and scored on a headball for the fourth goal.

“We played a good level of soccer today and our younger people after starting became comfortable working in the overlaps,” said Heuvelton Coach Bruce Durant.
HCS keeper Quint Brothers stopped four shots in the shutout.
M-W 6 – St. Regis Falls 0: Preparing for a key game at Chateaugay on Wednesday, Madrid-Waddington received received three goals from Kolby Todd, two from Christian Scott and a first career goal from Logan Gilson. Bear Wilson passed out three assists and Carson Knowlton added one to a one-save shutout by Jamison Zysik.
Chateaugay lost a 1-0 decision to Seton Catholic on Monday.
