Hanuman Ansh just keeps proving that word of mouth beats marketing budgets every single time. Made on a modest budget of Rs 2 crore, the Vishal Chaturvedi directorial has now crossed the Rs 400 crore mark worldwide, with its domestic nett collection standing at Rs 309.38 crore and the worldwide gross around Rs 404 crore after 53 days in theatres.
That kind of success hasn’t gone unnoticed. Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV have now announced a brand-new mytho-fiction series based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba, clearly riding the wave Hanuman Ansh has created. The announcement came through a cryptic first promo shared on X, with the caption, “Coming soon on Sony LIV and Sony Entertainment Television #NeebKaroriBaba #ComingSoon #SonyLIV #SonyTV.”
The teaser itself stays fairly mysterious for now. It shows glimpses of Baba’s signature shawl along with a reference to Lord Hanuman, hinting at the spiritual thread the show plans to explore. No cast names or streaming date have been revealed yet, but the makers have confirmed the series will dive into the saint’s teachings, his life story and the extraordinary experiences associated with him.
Hanuman Ansh itself began its theatrical journey quietly, opening on just 250 screens on August 7 with a modest Rs 10 lakh on Day 1. Low collections through the first two weeks gave little indication of what was to come. Then word of mouth took over, pushing the film’s screen count to around 2,000 screens as audiences kept showing up, week after week.
With a budget-to-earnings ratio that’s already being called one of the most remarkable in Hindi cinema history, it’s hardly surprising that a television spin-off was always going to follow. Whether this new series can capture even a fraction of the film’s runaway success remains to be seen, but the appetite for Neem Karoli Baba’s story clearly isn’t fading anytime soon.
