Hard-fought win for Ferencvaros at start of Hungaian final

Ferencvaros took a 1:0 lead in the final of the Hungarian League, beating Honved 13:9 in the first game of the best-of-five series.

It wasn’t an easy win for the reigning champion and the favorite, despite the 4-goal difference. The teams were in a neck-and-neck race for almost three quarters.

Honved took a one-goal lead five times during the first half. Viktor Vadovics converted a man-up for 0:1. From that point until 5:5, the teams traded goals. Ferencvaros went ahead for the first time only in the 15th minute, when Vendel Vigvari made it 6:5.

Szepfalvi leveled at 6:6 in the 19th minute. Ferencvaros responded with two back-to-back goals, building a 2-goal lead for the first time, 8:6 (22nd minute). Honved managed to halve the gap with 53 seconds left in the third period (7:8). Still, the visitors had no energy for a turn. Ferencvaros netted two goals in the last 29 seconds of the quarter (Fekete and Nagy) and added two more by the middle of the fourth period, building a 12:7 advantage to securie the victory.
