Nalgonda: Alleging undeclared power cuts for agricultural connections, BRS MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao on Sunday challenged the Congress MLAs and MPs to visit the sub-stations and the villages in their constituencies to ascertain facts.
Speaking to the media after visiting the sub-station at Motakondur in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, he said, “The officials hid log books of electricity supply ahead of my visit out of a fear that actual duration of power supply to the agricultural sector would be known to the opposition.”
The log book records, he said, would contain the timings of power supply, tripping and three-phase supply to agricultural connections. He questioned as to why the Congress government was “afraid of showing him gthe log book, if it really supplies 24 hours electricity to the agriculture sector.”
Harish Rao dared the Congress MLAs and MPs to visit sub-stations in their constituencies and get the feedback from the people on the power supply.
“I was told that farmers in Motakondur and surrounding areas were getting six hours’ electricity supply with repeated interruptions and low voltage. This was affecting the cultivation of farmers using borewells,” he said.
The former minister criticised the Congress government for blaming El Nino for the present plight of farmers. He said it was not providing irrigation facility to the farmers even though water was available in the projects. He cited the Nagarjuna Sagar Project as an example.
Stating that the power generation was increased to 21,000mw during the BRS term in Telangana, he said the 3,500mw of power generation at Yadadri, Bhadradri and Kothagudem power plants was stopped on the pretext of shortage of coal.
Coming down heavily on the government over 22-A prohibited lands issue, he said the properties of farmers and the poor were also included in the prohibited lands list in Motakondur, Alair and Bhongir mandals.
Harish Rao made it clear that his family’s assets were disclosed in election affidavits and income-tax returns. He urged the state government to take action on the properties of the Congress leaders, which fell in Full Tank Level areas.
Earlier, the BRS leader also attended a meeting of the party at Motakondur where several leaders from different political parties joined the BRS.
