The disgraced Hollywood producer has been in prison since 2020. He is currently being held on RIker’s Island in Queens, New York, where he is awaiting sentencing for a sexual assault conviction from 2025.
According to reports, the 74-year-old began struggling to breathe, and was swiftly transferred to Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan. Insiders claimed that he has been receiving treatment ever since.
It is believed that he was hooked up to an IV and a heart monitor, and is on antibiotics following his battle with pneumonia.
TMZ reports that he is feeling better, but hasn’t been given the all-clear to leave the facility just yet.
Weinstein has faced multiple health issues throughout his time in prison, and previously underwent emergency heart surgery after experiencing “chest pains”.
He was also taken to hospital with pneumonia and Covid in 2024, and was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia shortly after.
The National Cancer Institute describes his condition as a “type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes a large number of abnormal blood cells.”
More than 100 women came forward with sexual assault and harassment allegations against Weinstein in 2017, which set off the viral #MeToo social media movement. He has continued to deny all allegations of non-consensual sex.
He faced criminal charges in New York and LA, and has been convicted of some, while acquitted of others.
The former mogul was first convicted of sexual assaults in 2020 but this conviction was overturned – following two further mistrials, prosecutors in New York announced last month that they would not pursue the rape charge against him any further.
In 2023, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison for rape and sexual assault in California – however, he is currently awaiting sentencing in New York for a conviction from last year, and will not serve his California sentence until this is done.
