With the high-value bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees) — providing new cardholders with 100,000 bonus points, earned after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening — you might be wondering: Am I eligible?
If you currently have its premium sibling, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees), you may think the answer is complicated.
But rest assured, even if you have the Sapphire Reserve, you’re still likely eligible for the Sapphire Preferred bonus. Here’s what you should know.
Highest-ever offer: Earn 100,000 bonus points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. Apply now!
Am I eligible for the Sapphire Preferred bonus if I have the Sapphire Reserve?
Here’s the main idea: As long as you’ve never previously held or earned a bonus on your own Sapphire Preferred, you’re likely eligible for the current bonus.
This is true even if you’re a current (or former) Sapphire Reserve cardholder.
What about authorized users? As long as you haven’t been the primary cardholder on a Sapphire Preferred account, you’re still likely eligible to receive your own Sapphire Preferred — and this stellar 100,000-point bonus, worth $2,050 in travel, according to TPG’s June 2026 valuations.
Before you go to apply, let’s revisit the other eligibility requirements.

What are the Chase Sapphire eligibility rules?
Here are the additional rules you’ll want to keep in mind before applying for the Sapphire Preferred bonus:
- Always factor in the Chase 5/24 rule. An applicant who has opened five or more new credit cards from any issuer in the past 24 months will more than likely be declined for any new Chase card, including the Sapphire Preferred. However, Chase doesn’t typically factor business cards into this count.
- You cannot have an open Sapphire Preferred card.
- You’re unlikely to earn another Sapphire Preferred bonus if you’ve already earned a bonus on the Sapphire Preferred (even if you don’t currently hold the card).
- If you’ve previously been the primary cardholder on a Sapphire Preferred account, you may not be eligible for this bonus, even if you didn’t earn a bonus the first time.
- If you’ve only been a Sapphire Preferred authorized user and have never held your own Sapphire Preferred, you’re likely eligible for your own Sapphire Preferred.
- You’ll need to have an adequate credit history, and we recommend a credit score of at least 670 to qualify.

The key considerations are being under 5/24, never earning the Sapphire Preferred bonus and never holding the Sapphire Preferred previously. As long as this applies to you, you should be good to go.

Bottom line
You can be a current Sapphire Reserve cardholder and still qualify for the Sapphire Preferred bonus. The main considerations involve your history with the Sapphire Preferred, specifically.
If you’ve never been the primary cardholder on a Sapphire Preferred account and you’ve never earned a Sapphire Preferred bonus, you’re likely eligible for this standout offer.
As always, be sure you’re under 5/24 and have a good credit history. Then, be sure to meet the spending requirement to earn the Sapphire Preferred’s big 100,000-point bonus.
