Hayden Panettiere’s co-stars were left in tears at her emotional memorial as they said goodbye to the actress, who died earlier this year aged just 36
The Nashville co-stars of Hayden Panettiere were left in tears as they paid their respects at her memorial in Malibu this weekend. Connie Britton, Jonathan Jackson and Sam Palladio were among the attendees.
The memorial took place at Malibu Pacific Church on Saturday, 19 September. At the service, Panettiere’s life and legacy were honoured, following her death earlier this year. The star was just 36 when she died in Greenville, South Carolina.
Britton, Jackson and Palladio were joined by Ruby Rose, Beverly D’Angelo, Evan Ross and filmmaker Storm Santos, who all arrived at the church for 5pm, when the memorial began. 150 guests are estimated to have attended, grieving together as doves were released into the air, as a symbolic gesture of peace.
In pictures obtained by the Daily Mail, the group of actors, many of whom were in the drama Nashville with Panettiere, could be seen arriving. Britton, who co-led the show with the late star, wore a mid-length black dress and covered her eyes with sunglasses.
D’Angelo and Rose also wore sunglasses, but D’Angelo, who was in one of Panettiere’s last films, Sleepwalker, wore a black suit, while Rose, one of Panettiere’s best friends, wore a pale blue shirt and a grey suit.
Nashville star Jackson needed comfort from fellow cast member Palladio as he teared up while they waited to enter the church. Jackson could be seen gripping Palladio’s arm as tears filled his eyes.
Snaps of the inside of the churc showed a large photograph of Panettiere was displayed with the words: “Honouring the life and legacy of Hayden Panettiere, 8.12.89 – 8.16.26”
Security guards were stationed near the church so that the memorial, which ran until 7:30pm, could not be crashed. A source told TMZ that the whole service was “emotional and beautiful”. They added that a band was set up inside the church and that Britton read a speech to to honour Panettiere.
It was reported that Panettiere’s mother, Leslie Vogel, was not at the memorial, but the actress’ father, Skip, was. He was seen attending the service in a suit, with a lei around his neck.
Reports ahve suggested that Vogel was not invited to her daughter’s memorial, but she is said to have denied that to TMZ, and instead could not attend due to a family emergency.
Neither Panettiere’s on and off boyfriend Brian Hickerson nor his brother Zach are thought to have been invited to the memorial. Panettiere was with the brothers when she died. The actress had gone into cardiac arrest after a suspected drug overdose.
The Greenville police department have confirmed that their officers responded to a 911 call from an ‘acquaintance’ of Panettiere and found her unresponsive upon arrival.
