Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state to obtain instructions on a PIL filed by BRS MLA T. Harish Rao seeking full implementation of the crop loan waiver scheme. During the scrutiny stage, the court adjourned the matter to June 8 after asking the state counsel to seek instructions from the government.
The petition relates to GO Rt. No. 567 dated July 15, 2024, under which the state introduced the Crop Waiver Scheme, promising waiver of short-term agricultural loans up to ₹2 lakh per family.
Senior counsel J. Ramchander Rao, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that farmers were facing financial distress due to alleged non-implementation of the scheme. He contended that despite assurances, the loan waiver had not been fully carried out, affecting beneficiaries.
The matter remains pending.
HC refuses to interfere in MLC appointments
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has declined to interfere in the appointment of M. Kodandaram and Mohammed Azharuddin as Members of the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota, noting that the issue is pending before the Supreme Court. Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka was hearing a petition filed by Syed Hyder Raza Naqvi challenging GO No. 71 issued on April 26 appointing the two leaders.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that the government order did not address the pending special leave petition before the Supreme Court on appointments under the Governor’s quota and said the order was issued despite the matter being under consideration. The court questioned the maintainability of the plea, observing that once the issue is seized of by the apex court, the High Court cannot adjudicate on the same matter.
It said any objections to the appointments should be raised before the Supreme Court. Holding that no interference was warranted at this stage, the court disposed of the petition.
HC declines stay on Shivadhar’s adviser post
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has declined to grant an interim stay on the government order issued regarding the appointment of B. Shivadhar Reddy as state security adviser to the Telangana government. Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy was hearing an interim application filed by the petitioner T. Dhangopal Rao, seeking a stay of the GO which appointed the retired IPS officer to the post.
During the hearing, the petitioner urged the court to keep the government order in abeyance until the writ petition filed challenging the Shivadhar Reddy as in-charge DGP is finally decided. However, the court refused to pass any interim orders and observed that the appointment of officers as Officers on Special Duty after retirement falls within the domain of the government and that courts ordinarily do not interfere in such decisions.
