With the Duke of Sussex expressing his wish to reconcile with his estranged brother Prince William, the Mirror’s Pod Save the King royal YouTube show has delved into why the royals would be furious

Prince Harry admits he wants to reconcile with William and King Charles after royal rift – ‘I want to work it out’

Prince Harry’s has a ‘brass neck’ for talking about the scars of his family feud when he was the one who “put the knife in”, according to the Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers.

It comes after the Duke of Sussex issued a public plea to his family in a bombshell interview, sharing his desire to reconcile with his father the King and his estranged brother Prince William after years of the two not being on speaking terms.

Despite his plea after levelling several accusations over the years at his royal relatives, Russell questioned Harry on the Mirror’s Pod Save The King YouTube show, asking: “Where does he get off?”

He added: “I mean talking about scars sticking around forever, he was the one who caused these scars. He was the one who put the knife in to create the wounds… Why is he doing this so publicly? And surely why can he not just say sorry?”

The Mirror’s deputy royal editor Jennifer Newton wondered if the Duke feels he has no other ways to reach his brother other than through the media, driving him to make such public pleas. Jennifer said: “Maybe from Harry’s point of view, if William won’t pick up his calls or return his text messages, does he think that he has to put a message out there publicly?”

But Russell added: “I’ll be honest, the absolute brass neck of talking about scars sticking around forever. I imagine the majority of the royal family will feel that they can’t let go of the Oprah interview, Harry’s book… and now he has the gall to say that he wants to make up. I mean, you just can’t have it all your own way, all of the time. And talking about there’s enough drama in the world, I mean he caused the drama!”

When Harry relocated to America with his wife Meghan in 2020, they did not hold back in airing their grievances about the Royal Family. Now, several years on with the Sussexes now living back in Harry’s home country, the Duke has once again spoken candidly about his fractured relationship with his brother, saying he has been ‘grieving’ their broken bond and that there is “enough drama in the world to continue with issues with family”.

In the interview with GQ magazine, Harry implored his father and brother to let go of their grudges against Harry and his past actions, as he said: “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile – that’s the key point… scars stick around forever.”

Following the release of the GQ interview, a friend of Harry’s told news.com.au that the intention of his interview was clear, as he hopes to send a message to the Royal Family that he is laying down his sword and is finished with fighting.

The friend told the publication : “Harry’s come back to the UK with a very different perspective on things, given everything that’s happened since 2020. He’s genuinely very keen to find a way to make things work here, he wants to be here, and part of that is rebuilding a relationship with the media … and in a way that works for everyone on all sides.”

They continued: “There’s just no point pretending the environment wasn’t incredibly toxic before they left, but I think he’s clearly now keen to move forward from that.”
