Samia Longchambon was once in a relationship with her Coronation Street co-star before a sudden and shock split
Samia Longchambon is a Coronation Street legend playing Maria Connor – but it turns out she once dated one of her co-stars.
Samia has been a staple on the long-running ITV soap for years – making her debut as Maria in 2000. And it didn’t take her long to become a firm favourite with fans.
She’s also played a part in several big storylines too. From her many romances, Maria’s time in Weatherfield has not been short of drama.
Especially at the moment, as husband Gary (Mikey North) is clearly hiding something huge from his wife. Not to mention his and Sarah’s (Tina O’Brien) secretive behaviour and sudden closeness, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Maria.
In Tuesday’s episode (June 16) Maria caught Sarah and Gary hugging. Later on, she confided in Izzy (Cherylee Houston) and Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) that she suspects Sarah and Gary are having an affair.
Away from the soap though, Samia is loved-up with French professional ice skater Sylvain Longchambon. The pair met on Dancing on Ice in 2013, and went on to tie the knot in August 2016.
Samia and Sylvain have a son Yves Joseph Longchambon born in 2015. The soap star also has a daughter from her previous marriage to property developer Matthew Smith, born in October 2009.
Prior to this, Samia previously dated Coronation Street co-star Will Thorp and they later moved in together as a couple. The pair met on the set of Corrie, where viewers saw their characters hairdresser Maria Connor and bad boy Chris Gray get together.
However, the couple split in December 2012 while Samia was in training for Dancing on Ice. A friend told the Sunday People at the time: “Samia is happily single.
“The relationship just fizzled out and ran its course. Will was having to spend a lot of time down south and working away while Samia is still living up north.”
Another insider commented: “Samia and Will seemed very settled after the initial fuss. They seemed happy and enjoyed home life. But sadly they grew apart.”
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
