ADILABAD: Amid searing heat wave conditions, political leaders in the erstwhile Adilabad district are making hectic rounds of wedding functions, braving temperatures crossing 45°C to maintain grassroots connections during the peak marriage season.
Tamsi mandal recorded a high of 45.1°C on Friday, while temperatures in the district have touched up to 46°C over the past few days. Despite the extreme weather, leaders from major parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi, are attending multiple marriage events spread across a 60-km radius.
For nearly 10 days, leaders have been following tightly packed schedules, preparing detailed lists of weddings to attend and adhering to strict timings to cover as many functions as possible in a single day. Many start early in the morning and continue late into the night.
Several leaders are attending more than 20 weddings a day, spending just 10–15 minutes at each venue. Their visits are brief—walking onto the dais, greeting the bride and groom, posing for photographs, and quickly moving on to the next location.
Given the demanding schedule, most leaders skip full meals, opting only to taste sweets at functions. Lunch is usually taken at convenience at one of the events, if time permits.
The trend is not limited to Adilabad alone. Similar scenes are being witnessed in neighbouring districts such as Nirmal, Mancherial and Komaram Bheem Asifabad, where local leaders are also managing packed wedding itineraries.
A senior leader from the Congress party said attending such functions is crucial for maintaining strong ties with party workers. “We have to attend all the marriages without missing any, as party workers are our foundation. These interactions help strengthen relationships and provide political advantage,” he said, adding that he recently attended nearly 24 weddings in a single day, returning home late at night after starting at 7 a.m.
Despite the harsh summer conditions, political leaders continue their whirlwind tours, underlining the importance of social outreach in the region’s political culture.
