Hilary Duff has sparked a fresh wave of Lizzie McGuire reboot rumours after recreating an iconic scene from the early-2000s film.
Having just wrapped up the UK leg of her Lucky Me Tour – which ended with the 38-year-old pop star hinting at a return in 2027 – fans now suspect she might also be working on a new Lizzie McGuire project. The speculation kicked into overdrive when the singer posted a highly nostalgic video from Rome.
Taking to Instagram, Hilary shared a clip of herself perched on the edge of the Trevi Fountain. Dressed in a pink tank top and light-wash jeans, she perfectly recreated the famous wishing scene from the 2003 Disney film.
Lip-syncing an “Okay” to the original movie audio, she tosses a coin over her shoulder into the water. The video then seamlessly cuts to the cinematic shot of the coin splashing into the fountain before cutting back to a smiling Hilary as she walks away.
“Any guesses what I wished for…” she teased in the caption.
The comment section was quickly flooded by fans delighted by the hit of millennium nostalgia.

Even the official Disney accounts got involved. The main page commented, “Hey now,” referencing the film’s famous soundtrack, while Disney+ wrote: “We’re experiencing deja vu.”
Naturally, the post left many followers predicting an imminent “Lizzie reboot”.
So, will there be a Lizzie McGuire reboot?
Hilary was previously working on a Lizzie McGuire revival series for Disney+ that would follow the beloved character navigating her 30s. However, the highly anticipated project was paused in January 2020 after the showrunner stepped down, and the revival was officially cancelled by December of that same year due to creative differences between Hilary and the network.
This echoed history for the franchise. After the massive success of the 2003 film, plans for a sequel movie and a continuation of the original series were similarly shelved due to contract and creative disputes.
While Hilary has always remained open to the idea of returning to the role, she is currently busy with her global tour. She has also previously noted that the character “doesn’t quite fit a 40-something narrative yet”.
Still, given this latest Roman holiday tease, fans are holding out hope that the iconic character will eventually return to their screens.
