In a significant move reflecting the increasing representation of the Punjabi community in Canadian politics, four Punjabis have been appointed to the new cabinet of British Columbia under Premier David Eby. The newly inducted ministers are:

  • Niki Sharma, who has been elevated to the role of Deputy Premier while retaining her position as Attorney General. This makes her the first Indo-Canadian to hold the Deputy Premier position in the province.
  • Ravi Kahlon, appointed as Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs.
  • Jagrup Brar, who will oversee Mining and Critical Minerals.
  • Ravi Parmar, taking charge of Forests.

Additionally, Raj Chauhan is expected to return as the Speaker of the provincial legislature. This cabinet reshuffle highlights the diverse leadership within British Columbia, with a total of 14 Indo-Canadians elected to the Legislative Assembly in the recent elections.
