A killer driver is on the run after allegedly mowing down a woman on Tuesday morning and fleeing the scene.
A crime scene has been set up on Frankston-Flinders Road, near Highland Drive in Frankston South, after reports that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian around 5.30am.
Police said the woman, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The vehicle involved, which police believe to be a dark-coloured SUV, then allegedly fled the scene, and was last spotted travelling west on Frankston-Flinders Rd.
“The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing,” police said in a statement.
“A crime scene has been established, and traffic disruptions are expected in the area for some time.”
