Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has refused to supply 150 tankers of water to film the underwater sequences of S.S. Rajamouli’s upcoming movie ‘Varanasi’ starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. The movie is reportedly being filmed at a set created at a studio in Gaganpahad, Rajendranagar.

Representatives of Sri Durga Arts, the producers of ‘Varanasi’, approached the HMWS&SB seeking 150 tankers of water, each with a capacity of 10,000 litres for a film sequence. They had offered to pay for transport charges.

The filmmakers said they had constructed a pond at the studio to shoot certain underwater sequences and applied for the water tankers. They sought purified water for the shooting scheduled on May 18, according to the letter.

MD Ashok Reddy and other officials heading the water tanker department did not respond to queries by Deccan Chronicle on the matter.
