Hyderabad: The HMWS&SB will introduce online monitoring of treated water quality and measures to prevent wastage at green water filling stations as it seeks to reduce the use of drinking water for non-potable purposes.
Board managing director K. Ashok Reddy directed officials to ensure that excess water from tanker filling operations was diverted back into the reservoir instead of being wasted.
He also called for controls to prevent tankers from being filled beyond their designated capacities.
During a visit to the green water filling station at Kokapet on Thursday, he reviewed water quality testing procedures, laboratory operations and the recording of test results.
He directed officials to coordinate with the Pollution Control Board (PCB) and conduct regular tests according to prescribed standards.
The test results must be uploaded online and linked to the HMWS&SB headquarters for direct monitoring, he said.
The board’s IT department should make the necessary technical arrangements to ensure that water quality records remained transparent and accessible.
Ashok Reddy also instructed officials to establish separate filling limits according to tanker capacities and accurately record the quantity of water supplied to each tanker, along with other filling details.
A control mechanism should be installed to prevent tankers from receiving more than their permitted quantities.
Officials were asked to prepare a technical plan to divert excess water back into the reservoir.
He said treated water should be increasingly used for non-drinking purposes, including construction, industrial activities, road cleaning, dust control and garden maintenance.
This would help reduce pressure on the city’s drinking water resources.
He stressed the need for continuous monitoring of water quality, supply volumes and safety standards at green water filling stations.
Padmaja, chief general manager of the sewage treatment plant division, and other officials participated in the programme.
