Former Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis has told of how she ‘really believes in God’ now, and she is relying on her faith to help further her acting career and provide her with opportunities

Stephanie Davis has said she “really believes in God” – more than a decade after she was sacked from Hollyoaks. The actress, 33, played Sinead O’Connor on the Channel 4 soap, but in 2015 it was confirmed that her contract had been “terminated with immediate effect” after she turned up “unfit for work,” still drunk from the night before.
She reprised her role of Sinead three years later, but left the programme once again in 2020 before going on to join the cast of Coronation Street for a short stint in 2023.
Now, Stephanie, who has a son, Caben-Albi, nine, with former partner Jeremy O’Connell, as well as Samuel, 19 months, with ex-partner Joe McKalroy, has decided to look to the future and believes her faith will provide her with the right career opportunities.
She said: “[I] just [want] to maintain this peaceful, happy, grateful attitude that I’ve got towards life, and making sure my kids are happy. Now I’m off maternity leave, I really believe in God and for him to place something when it’s the right time, and a really good drama for me to do that, I’ll hopefully relate to other people to help them.”
Speaking to Metro, Stephanie added: “There’s not much I can ask for. I’ve got everything that I really need. I have a vision board as well; I’m big on vision boards. I have a picture of Jimmy McGovern in the middle and a little one of Stephen Graham as well.”
Stephanie came to public prominence in her late teens when she competed on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s BBC talent search, Over the Rainbow, which was looking for an unknown to play Dorothy in a West End production of The Wizard of Oz.
The series was eventually won by Danielle Hope, and whilst the majority of the contestants went on to enjoy careers in theatre, Stephanie found immediate TV success when she joined Hollyoaks just months after she was eliminated from the competition.
She then appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018 alongside the likes of John Partridge, who mentored her as a judge on Over the Rainbow, Gemma Collins, David Gest and Danniella Westbrook. It was here that she formed a relationship with Jeremy, but they split permanently less than a year after leaving the house.
Looking back on those early years of fame, Stephanie explained that growing up is “hard enough” as it is, but she had the added pressures of doing it in the public eye.
She added: “I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that was my path. I did fantastic work at Hollyoaks; I was nominated for so many awards, had some fantastic storylines, but for someone so young, it was just all a bit too full on for me. It’s different when you grow up and you’re a woman, and you have your own kids, and you reflect back to when you were younger.”
Just days ago, Stephanie admitted that now that she has been in two of the nation’s soaps, she would like to tick the rest of them off her list.
She told the Daily Star: “The next project that I do, I want it to be a completely different type of character. I’d love to go back to Corrie but then I also watch EastEnders and Emmerdale and I think I may as well tick them off the list. People do [move round], you see it, don’t you?”
