From leaving school at 14 to building an internationally recognised beauty brand across London and Dubai, Louise Bailey’s journey is one shaped by instinct, resilience and a commitment to mastering her craft. As the Co-Founder of Beauty Club London, Bailey transformed her early passion for hair into a specialist-led business known for its elevated approach to extensions and hair health, redefining luxury within the salon space.

In this edition of How I Got My Job As, Bailey reflects on the unconventional path that led her to entrepreneurship, the lessons she learned while building a brand through challenge and change and the philosophy that continues to drive her forward. From launching during uncertain times to creating a business built on expertise and innovation, she shares the experiences that shaped the role she holds today and her ambitions for the future.

1. What was your favourite subject at school?

I was never traditionally academic, and I actually left school at 14 without sitting for my exams. However, I always thrived in Art and Design, the spaces where creativity mattered most. While I didn’t fit into the conventional schooling system, I quickly realised that being street-smart, practical, and highly logical gave me a unique entrepreneurial edge.

2. What was your first job?

I started as a “Saturday girl” in a local Essex hair salon when I was just 13 years old. I swept floors, made tea, washed hair, and seized every single opportunity to sneak in and style someone’s hair. I learnt the industry from the ground up, working my way from a junior assistant.

3. What inspired you to enter the space and launch your brand?

My initial goal was simply to become the absolute best hair extensionist in the UK. Once I achieved that mastery, I realised the industry was operating on a deeply flawed model where salons treated extensions as a mere add-on service. After working in so many stiff salons, I wanted to disrupt the corporate salon world by creating a “laid-back luxury” experience. We wanted to build a brand where specialisation in hair extensions and hair health came first for hair extension wearers.

4. What are the key elements of your role?

As a founder, my role spans across dual locations in London and Dubai. I focus heavily on global business development, high-level strategy, and working closely with my PR, SEO, and operations teams.

5. Talk us through your daily routine.

I wake up around 7:00 AM, starting my day with hot water and lemon. My mornings are highly active. I typically answer international emails and WhatsApp messages between burpees, star jumps, and a few press-ups while sipping on matcha. I prioritise my physical and mental resilience by hitting the gym three times a week and meditating. The rest of my day is dedicated to global strategy, connecting with my London operations manager, and networking in Dubai. To sustain this pace, I am very disciplined about my rest, always aiming to be in bed between 10:00 and 11:00 PM.

6. What advice do you have for anyone looking to follow in the same footsteps?

Always believe you can do it and get obsessed with what you’re building. Find your niche and relentlessly beat on your craft daily. There is a profound difference between a traditional stylist who applies a few sets of extensions a month and a dedicated specialist who spends every single day mastering their art. If you want to build a brand, be the absolute authority in your specific space.

7. What are the pillars that define your brand?

The core pillars of Beauty Club London are Invisible Luxury, Uncompromising Specialisation, and our Hair-First philosophy. We believe that the health of your hair is the new wealth. Every technique we use is completely ours, prioritising the long-term integrity and rehabilitation of our clients’ natural hair above everything else.

8. What do you think makes your brand unique?

What makes us entirely unique is our expert approach to extensions. We are not just hairdressers; we are the guardians of a woman’s future hair health while wearing extensions. We spent four years relentlessly testing and trialling to engineer our own hair extension brand. We meticulously customise the weight, size, and texture of every single piece of hair to perfectly mirror the client’s biological hair, ensuring a result that is undetectable and that doesn’t affect the client’s natural hair. The highest compliment our clients receive is not about their extensions, but about how incredibly healthy their natural hair looks.

9. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

“All we have is time and choices. Choose them wisely.” This mindset strips away all the noise and reminds me that my time is my most valuable asset as a founder. With that in mind, I don’t have any to waste, so speed is everything for me in business.

10. And what is the worst?

When I was younger, my father told me I needed a “proper job” and that doing hair would never make me any money. It was terrible advice, but it gave me the exact fire I needed to prove him wrong and build an international brand.

11. What has been the biggest challenge you had to overcome?

Taking over a massive flagship space on Oxford Street at the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. While legacy businesses around us were permanently closing their doors, we were taking a terrifying risk to launch. Navigating the brutal demands of that pressure cooker and in my personal life being a single mum was incredibly difficult. Yet, it remains, hands down, my greatest achievement, and surviving it gave me the unshakeable resilience I have today. My son is now grown up and running the SEO side of the business, and I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without him.

12. What are your goals for the future?

In 2026, my focus is absolute market dominance in Dubai. We aim to aggressively fill the gap in the Middle Eastern market by bringing the very best of London’s high-end expertise in extensions, balayage, and specialist free-hand colour techniques. Our ultimate goal is for expats and luxury consumers in the UAE to have zero doubt that Beauty Club London is the premier destination for achieving authentic, world-class London results. That said, Beauty Club London is just one part of the bigger picture. I have a few more exciting business ventures up my sleeve that I will be rolling out over the coming years.
