OXFORD — Ole Miss football quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has yet to lose in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

“I guess it’s just something about being here, playing in the Vaught,” Chambliss said.

Over the past four seasons, no stadium has been more difficult for opposing teams to play in than Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

That will be put to the test in a big way in Week 10 with one of the SEC’s best new rivalries. No. 12 Ole Miss (6-2, 4-2 SEC) hosts No. 2 Georgia (7-1, 5-1) on Nov. 7 (6:30 p.m., ABC).

Ole Miss football is 26-1 at home since the 2023 season, the best record among FBS teams. The lone loss was early in 2024 when Kentucky beat the Rebels 20-17.

Since Chambliss took over as Ole Miss’ starter in Week 3 of 2025, the Rebels are 11-0 at home.

Vaught-Hemingway is No. 13 out of 16 teams in stadium capacity in the SEC at 64,038. The run has survived a coaching change from Lane Kiffin to Pete Golding, and has coincided with the program’s first College Football Playoff appearance in 2025.

Where Ole Miss football recent home record ranks in college football

Ohio State is right behind Ole Miss at 25-1 at home since 2023. The Ohio Bobcats (21-1) are the only other team with one home loss in that span.

A few SEC teams are in the bunch right behind Ole Miss. Other teams with two-loss home records since 2023 include LSU (24-2), Georgia (23-2), Oregon (25-2) and Texas (24-2).

Golding was as an assistant at Alabama from 2018-22 and experienced one of the best home field advantages in the country. The Crimson Tide were 32-1 at home with Golding on staff

“Not making light of it, I think that’s pretty consistent across the board in the SEC,” Golding said. “At my time at the other place, I was there five-and-a-half-years and we lost one home game.”

How Ole Miss built one of college football’s best home-field advantages

Georgia coach Kirby Smart was asked about the biggest challenge his team faces. He singled out having to travel to Oxford. The Bulldogs lost 28-10 at Ole Miss in 2024.

“Challenge is to go on the road and play in an atmosphere that’s extremely hard to play in, but that’s this week which is my single focus,” Smart said Nov. 2.

It hasn’t always been like this at Ole Miss. In the four years before 2023, the Rebels were 18-8 at home.

Golding said it’s a few different things that have helped the Rebels break into the group of teams with an elite home field advantage.

“I think No. 1 obviously you’ve got to have good players,” Golding said. “Got to have a quarterback.”

The Rebels have undeniably had good players, starting with quarterbacks Jaxson Dart (2022-24) and Chambliss. Ole Miss had the No. 2-ranked transfer portal class in 2023, the No. 1 class in 2024, the No. 4 class in 2025 and the No. 2 class in 2026.

Golding also said the best coaching staffs take advantage of a home game by having more preparation time than the opponent.

“Normally if it’s a night game it’s almost a day-and-a-half of less preparation,” Golding said. “You’re not in your meeting rooms. All those routines and those other things that go into the last 36 hours of a game that are so important, you really don’t get because of the traveling piece and where you are getting.”

Ole Miss reported an average of 67,372 fans in 2024 and 66,936 in 2025. Both figures are slightly over the official capacity of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The 2026 season attendance figures are off to a strong start. Ole Miss set a stadium record with 70,033 fans in Week 3 vs LSU.

“I think the atmosphere that’s created by our fans, by our students, the game day atmosphere on top of it, makes it extremely tough to play,” Golding said. “When offenses come in here the crowd noise and all those things are a big piece.”

When speaking after a 45-15 win vs Auburn on Oct. 31, Chambliss gave fans the biggest piece of the credit for his team’s home success.

“We love playing at home,” Chambliss said. “Our fans bring it every home game. Even today it was an 11:45 a.m. kickoff and it was packed before it kicks off. They are into it. On third down the crowd is hyped and super loud and making it difficult for that offense. So we can’t do it without them.”
