Kentucky even heads into the postseason on a three-game losing streak, dropping its final series against No. 10-ranked Arkansas two games to one, and then losing in the first round of the SEC tournament 8-5 to Vanderbilt. However, Kentucky did go 15-9 against teams in the tournament field, as noted by Florida State president and Selection Committee chair Michael Alford, which was factored into the decision to include the Wildcats in the tournament.
We will find out quickly if the committee’s faith in Kentucky proves worthwhile or not, as the Wildcats will face an early tough test against a talented Wake Forest squad. The Demon Deacons went 38-19 this season and 16-14 in ACC play. The strength in Wake Forest’s team lies in its bat and its power, led by outfielder Luke Costello, who had 17 home runs this season on a .320 batting average and a 1.146 OPS.
