How to turn your business’s expenses into next year’s hotel stays

For many small business owners, the second half of the year follows a familiar pattern: spending ramps up.

Fall and the holidays are usually when the money moves. Ad spend climbs, shipping volume spikes, and client dinners and holiday parties are all on the horizon. By the time Q4 arrives, it’s often the most expensive stretch of the year — and, for many businesses, the busiest.

That spending isn’t optional at times. You’re going to run the ads, ship the orders and book the flights— the only real question is whether that spending helps pay for future travel.

If you put that spending on the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card from Chase (see rates and fees), you can earn points to redeem toward future stays. Now through Dec. 31, 2026, new cardmembers can earn 70,000 Bonus Points after spending $7,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

Many businesses spend $7,000 over a few months on expenses naturally. And with the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, those expenses can convert into hotel nights you’d otherwise be paying cash for.

Where your business actually spends the most

Think about where your business spending went last Q4. The list is often predictable — online advertising, shipping, client meals, travel, and the boring recurring costs like internet and phone bills.

The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is built around that list. Cardmembers earn 2 Bonus Points per dollar spent in their top three eligible spending categories each quarter. You don’t even have to put in work to choose those categories ahead of time, because Chase automatically identifies where your business spent the most within the categories below and applies the bonus accordingly.

Eligible categories include:

  • Dining
  • Shipping
  • Airline tickets purchased directly from the airline
  • Local transit and commuting
  • Social media and search engine advertising
  • Car rental agencies
  • Gas stations
  • Internet, cable and phone services

That flexibility makes the card work for different types of businesses. For an e-commerce business, that could be advertising, shipping, and internet. For a consulting firm, it’s probably dining, airfare, and transit. Either way, your rewards follow your spending.

Rewards that continue long after the welcome bonus

There’s a lot to love about the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card beyond the welcome offer. It’s packed with business-friendly perks that can elevate your travel experience.

First off, you get World of Hyatt Discoverist status automatically for as long as the account is open — and you can gift it to up to five employees, who don’t need to be cardmembers. If your team travels, that’s free 2 p.m. late checkout (as available) and premium internet for those employees.

Cardmembers can also earn up to 9 total points per dollar spent on qualifying purchases at Hyatt hotels and resorts when using the credit card (4 Bonus Points per dollar on qualifying purchases at Hyatt and up to 5 Base Points per eligible dollar spent for being a World of Hyatt member).

The card also earns five tier-qualifying night credits for every $10,000 you spend in a calendar year, so you can get closer to top-tier Globalist status with every dollar you spend. Globalist benefits include free club lounge access at participating properties and suite upgrades (as available) — all of which can make your Hyatt stay even more enjoyable.

While the card has a $199 annual fee (see rates and fees), you can earn half of it back when you stay at Hyatt properties with up to $100 in Hyatt statement credits every year, which are issued as two $50 credits each earned when you spend $50 or more at a Hyatt property.

Better yet, spend $50,000 in a calendar year, and you’ll get 10% of your redeemed points back as Bonus Points for the rest of that year, up to 200,000 points. Maximizing this benefit gives you enough points back for free nights at many Hyatt properties.

Turning World of Hyatt points into stays

Once you’ve earned your points, there are plenty of ways to use them, whether you’re traveling for business or finally taking a break after a busy season. Here’s what 70,000 World of Hyatt points can do for you:

The conference trip. Business travel is one of the easiest ways to put World of Hyatt points to work. Many Hyatt Place and Hyatt Regency properties in major convention cities fall into Category 4, where award nights range from 12,000 to 25,000 points, depending on the redemption level.

The current 70,000 Bonus Point welcome offer alone could cover two to five of those nights, depending on the redemption level. If you’re going to a fall conference and booking on the shoulder dates rather than the peak ones, this is where Hyatt’s award chart could quietly do you a favor.

HYATT

The team off-site. Q4 is the perfect time to get your team together for a retreat to plan the new year and reflect on what you’ve accomplished so far. There are a variety of great Category 4 and 5 resort properties around the country that are perfect for a retreat, including many under the Destination by Hyatt brand.

Some of our favorites include the Suncadia Resort near Cle Elum, Washington, the Seaview Hotel near Atlantic City, New Jersey, and The Carolina Inn near Durham, North Carolina. With the 70,000 Bonus Points from your welcome offer, you could have enough points to book two rooms for two nights, depending on availability and the redemption level (based on Hyatt’s award chart).

The reward for Q4. Whether you’re rewarding employees or yourself for a job well done, you can use your points to book high-end aspirational stays at properties like Park Hyatt Sydney, Miraval Austin Resort and Spa and Andaz Miami Beach Resort and Spa. These stays can easily cost thousands of dollars per night, but you can book many of them for $0 out of pocket with your World of Hyatt points.

Bottom line

You’re going to run the ads, ship the orders, book the flights, and feed the clients between now and the end of December, regardless of which card is in your wallet. You might as well maximize this spending with a card that gives you points where you spend the most — and has a great welcome offer to boot.

The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card’s current welcome offer — 70,000 Bonus Points after you spend $7,000 in the first three months could turn into a conference covered, an off-site covered, or a trip in the new year that you didn’t budget for.
