All eyes are on South Bend this Saturday as No. 1 Miami looks to preserve its top-seed status with a testing trip to face No. 11 Notre Dame. The Hurricanes have won each of the last two meetings between these teams but haven’t beaten Notre Dame in Indiana since 1984, losing three in a row when the 7-1 Fighting Irish have home advantage.

Miami remains undefeated at the Atlantic Coast Conference summit with a perfect 8-0 record but nonetheless makes the trip this weekend as slight underdogs. Heisman favorite Darian Mensah is one of four quarterbacks tied at the top of the standings with 25 touchdown passes to his credit, though he’s got the edge over his rivals with a single interception on his record to date.
Notre Dame counterpart CJ Carr is also high in the Heisman race and also has just the one interception to his name, albeit with seven fewer scoring passes. Saturday’s game is replete with must-watch individual matchups, however, not least of which is the showdown between Malachi Toney – the 13-time TD scorer – versus standout Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore, the jewel in the crown of the best lockdown defense in the land.
This week’s initial CFP rankings added even more emphasis to this week’s result at Notre Dame Stadium after Freeman’s side came in at 11th, while Miami topped the billing. That sent a clear message to the hosts that if they want to avoid a repeat of last year’s snub, blowing away the Hurricanes will be crucial to their chances.
This will be all too personal for the Fighting Irish, too, considering Miami played a key role in keeping them out of the playoffs in 2025. Notre Dame has conceded just 17 points across three games at its home stadium this year but will see that record put to the test against a Miami team averaging close to 40 points on the road in 2026.
