For over a decade, King of the Hill fans believed that the iconic, slice-of-life animated sitcom was as dead as George W. Bush’s political career. Then, Hulu blessed us with four more years.

This past August, the first season of the King of the Hill revival series delighted fans of the show with an absolute return-to-form that taught us that, regardless of the genre’s track record, every animated comedy nostalgia revival doesn’t have to be an uninspired retread, and it is, in fact, possible to modernize an all-time classic. King of the Hill Season 14 brought Arlen, Texas into the 2020s with style and grace, and, save some complaints about a couple of recast vocal performances, fans of the original series welcomed the revival as a thoughtful, faithful and refreshingly funny continuation of the canon.

King of the Hill was already set to premiere Season 15 on Hulu next year, then, earlier today, the streamer announced that it had extended the show’s contract for a 16th and 17th season. Before we knew how well King of the Hill creator Mike Judge and his team would pull off their return to Arlen, Hulu handing out this Futurama-sized extension would have read like a bad omen and a shameless cash-grab, but now were as giddy as Hank Hill at a soccer game.

As Hulu boasted in its official press release regarding the King of the Hill revival renewal, Season 14 reached the second-highest spot on Nielsens streaming charts during the week of its August 4th premiere, and it earned a 98 percent approval rating from TV critics according to RottenTomatoes. While the streamer didnt provide an update on when, exactly, in 2026 King of the Hill fans can expect Season 15, knowing that the next 10 episodes wont be the end of the road for Hank, Peggy, Bobby and their neighbors is enough to make the wait more bearable.

One critical aspect of the success of King of the Hill Season 14 was that Judge and showrunner Saladin K. Patterson managed to bring back many of the writers and non-acting creatives who made the original series such a success, and, hopefully, the decision-makers will be able to retain the talent who helped them pull off arguably the greatest nostalgia revival in animated comedy history through their extended series order.

At the very least, according to the production listing from the Writers’ Guild of America website, the same writers room that penned Season 14 also worked on Season 15, so we can expect the show to at least maintain its steady course through next year. Whether its with binchō-tan or a more clean-burning fuel, all we can do now is let the writers cook.
