Hyderabad:The city police for the first time deployed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based crowd management system at the Secunderabad Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu festival.
The system via facial recognition helped police detain 13 suspects, including those harassing women.
In one instance, the Secunderabad zonal IT team spotted a suspect attempting to rob a devotee, and relayed the information to a She Teams personnel in plainclothes. The suspect was promptly apprehended.
The system would be deployed at similar events and would also be linked to drones, city police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said. “We can prevent crime, identify, arrest and prosecute the culprits. We are waiting for the government’s approval.”
Earlier in the day, Sajjanar along with senior officials examined the working of the system set up at the Mahankali police station, watching the proceedings on three large monitors, “The technology is remarkable,” Sajjanar said.
The facial recognition aspect will be used to identify suspects, DCP, traffic, Avinash Kumar told Deccan Chronicle. It will also predict situations based on the number of devotees entering and exiting the temple as well as people waiting in queues and can be used in emerging crowd control scenarios.
The software is used in the advanced countries. The system can be monitored from main command control centre, said Sayed Amjad Hussain, CEO and founder of BYC AI, said.
