Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police detained six persons in connection with the kidnap of gold merchant Srinivasa Rao from Chikkadpally.

Police have reportedly found that Rao was freed by his family members after paying kidnappers. It is reported that the family members paid Rs.1crore to kidnappers. Rao later told the police that he had escaped from kidnappers himself.

As suspicion arose, the Chikkadapalli police launched an in-depth investigation. This brought to light the fact that he was freed after paying the money.

Police suspect that Rao was kidnapped by a nine-member gang. Six of the accused have been detained and are being interrogated. On October 5, Rao was kidnapped from a gold shop in Ramanthapur and the gang called his family members allegedly demanding ransom.
