Hyderabad Records Lowest House Ownership, Highest Rental Living In Telangana

The survey shows that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area has the lowest rate of home ownership in the state, with only 23.08 per cent of households owning a house. Nearby districts Medchal-Malkajgiri (35.26 per cent) and Rangareddy (35.56 per cent) are the second and third lowest districts respectively.
In contrast, rural districts dominate the top of the list. Narayanpet recorded the highest proportion of house ownership at 68.88 per cent, followed by Wanaparthy with 67.02 per cent, Jogulamba Gadwal with 65.21 per cent, Nagarkurnool with 65.13 per cent and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri with 64.86 per cent.

he data highlights a clear urban-rural divide in housing patterns. While home ownership is more common in rural areas, urban centres like Hyderabad and its surrounding districts are seeing a significant shift towards rental living.

The survey also reveals that Hyderabad has the highest proportion of households living in rented homes, at a whopping 70.63 per cent. This is again followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri with 60.91 per cent and Rangareddy with 59.71, indicating that a majority of residents in and around Hyderabad depend on rental housing.
Other districts, however, have relatively lower rental populations. Narayanpet district reported the lowest rented population percentile with 26.17 per cent, while Jayashankar Bhupalpally district has 26.35 per cent, Wanaparthy with 29.11 per cent, Nagarkurnool with 29.45 per cent and Mahabubabad district with 30.32 per cent following suit.
