HYDERABAD: Festive celebrations turned into a nightmare on Saturday evening after an overhead lighting truss collapsed and sparked a fire during a Dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College in Nadargul, Ranga Reddy district. The accident claimed the life of a female student and left at least 25 other students injured.

The mishap occurred while hundreds of students were dancing on the college grounds as part of pre-Dasara celebrations. According to preliminary reports, the heavy metallic lighting structure mounted above the dance area gave way without warning, crashing down on the gathering and triggering a sudden blaze. The sudden impact and subsequent fire triggered widespread panic and a chaotic rush across the venue.

Emergency services and college authorities promptly shifted the injured to nearby private hospitals for emergency treatment. Police have arrived at the scene, secured the area, and launched an investigation to ascertain whether negligence in event production or electrical short-circuits caused the structure to collapse.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy conveyed his grief over the student’s death and expressed deep condolences to the mourning family. He instructed district administrative and medical officials to closely monitor the condition of the injured students and ensure they receive comprehensive, top-tier medical care.
