Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on illegal mining, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) raided six locations on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Tuesday, demolishing six stone crushing units and 12 ready-mix concrete plants in a single day. Accompanied by a heavy police force, the team conducted demolitions at Vattinagulapally in Gandipet mandal, Gowlidoddi in Serilingampally mandal, and Kotwalaguda village in Shamshabad mandal of Rangareddy district.

The simultaneous raids were carried out within the core urban regional limits following complaints from the Pollution Control Board and the Mining and Revenue departments. Officials said the units were operating without permission, and machinery was removed to prevent further activity.

Authorities identified firms, including Great India Mining, Paramesh Singh Stone Crusher, Sri Lakshmi Constructions, Prithvi Stone Crusher, along with an individual named Maktha Bhagat Singh, as being involved in illegal mining. Residents had complained that illegal quarrying and blasting were damaging the environment and endangering nearby habitations. Despite earlier warnings, the units continued operations, prompting strict action.

Officials said the units had electricity dues running into crores of rupees and were using diesel generators to continue operations even after power disconnection. The crackdown has brought relief to locals affected by pollution and safety concerns. HYDRAA officials said units operating without permissions will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against those harming public health and the environment.
