AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday ruled out joining the Opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc, describing it as an “elite club” whose constituent parties were “allergic” to an alliance with his party.

Speaking to reporters at Darussalam, the AIMIM headquarters, Owaisi said the Opposition parties had deliberately avoided forging an alliance with his party and rejected suggestions of joining the bloc.

Responding to questions about his absence from I.N.D.I.A. bloc protests against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Owaisi questioned why he alone was being singled out.

He pointed out that several prominent Opposition leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and other DMK leaders, had also stayed away from recent protests.

The Hyderabad MP asserted that AIMIM had consistently opposed government policies independently and did not need to join the I.N.D.I.A. bloc to demonstrate its stand on public issues.

He said his party had opposed the SIR exercise and the existing procedure for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner even before the I.N.D.I.A. bloc raised these issues.

On local matters, Owaisi said he had urged the Telangana government to increase the monthly wages of outsourced employees and address delays in salary payments, particularly in view of rising living costs.
