I tried Traitors-themed Krispy Kreme donuts but found glaring issue in first 2 bites

Krispy Kreme has launched a brand new doughnut in collaboration with BBC The Traitors, and I had to try it to find out whether I was actually a faithful or a traitor

BBC The Traitors x Krispy Kreme

Celebrity Traitors kicked off last week, and the nation is already hooked. I’m really excited to see how everything pans out in the BBC show – and if you’re also going to be glued to your telly, you’ll be pleased to know there are plenty of Traitors-themed snacks you can settle down with to watch too.

I previously tried the Iceland x Traitors collaboration, which contained some seriously delicious items. So when I found out that Krispy Kreme had brought out a doughnut, I was intrigued. Not only is the design Traitors themed, but it also has a fun surprise inside.

Once you bite into the sweet treat, you find out whether you’re a Faithful or a Traitor depending on the colour of the filling. So it’s no surprise I was curious to see what my fate would be.

It’s quick and easy, fun to have with friends, and I think we’re all in the mood for a bit of that at the moment as the weather gets colder and darker earlier!

The secret centre (which was a little bit too secret for my liking, but we’ll come back to that shortly…) reveals your true allegiance, with orange ‘kreme’ for faithful and green for traitor inside.

What is the doughnut all about?

The doughnut itself is topped with chocolate icing and features an edible shield bearing Claudia Winkleman’s heavily fringed, slightly disguised face. Because who wouldn’t want to eat a baked good with Claudia’s face on it?

My first tentative bite revealed a slightly firmer exterior than your standard Krispy Kreme, giving way to a nice, doughy middle. However, the secret centre proved a little too secret.

I took a second bite and was still left entirely in the dark about my status, which is quite the glaring issue. Normally, the filling is slap-bang in the middle, but I had to actively hunt for this one.

Finally, on my third bite, a sliver of orange made itself known – I was a Faithful!

As much as I’d like to think I’d make a brilliant, morally upstanding Faithful on the actual show, I’d be absolutely desperate to be tapped on the shoulder as a Traitor. Though perhaps not quite as desperate as Richard E. Grant.

What does the doughnut taste like?

Despite the vibrant orange and green colouring, the filling surprisingly tasted exactly like a standard raspberry jam.

While it might not be the most mind-blowing flavour profile in Krispy Kreme’s line-up, the £2.99 price tag is easily justified by the fun novelty factor alone.

Who is in The Traitors this year, and when does it air?

Amol Rajan, Bella Ramsey, James Acaster, James Blunt, Jerry Hall, Joanne McNally, Joe Lycett, Julie Hesmondhalgh, King Kenny, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Maya Jama, Michael Sheen, Miranda Hart, Myha’la, Professor Hannah Fry, Richard E. Grant, Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft, and Sharon Rooney are all part of the original line-up.

The series will air two nights a week on Thursday and Friday evenings at 8pm, so it is a little bit of a commitment, but it’s well worth it!
